Bullet Art and Case Coloring
[ Explanation of the 1890 Winchester Rifle ]
This is an example of bullet art. Classically, bullet art was created by exhibition
and trick
shooters at carnivals and rodeo's during the mid 1900's. The example above
was
created by "Two Ponies" several years ago with a .22 caliber
rifle.
Shown above is a classic example of a Winchester second model 1890 rifle. This case hardening
and coloring process was applied at the factory. The color is very shallow
and delicate and
very quickly wore off with handling and use. Quite often guns are seen with one
side very
colorful and the opposite side dull or gray due to exposure or sunlight
during storage.
